‘2012 Indy Dream Weekend’ Sweepstakes to Coincide with HendrickCars.com Re-Launch CHARLOTTE, N.C., February 13, 2012 – HendrickCars.com will sponsor three NASCAR teams in select races in early 2012. The sponsorships will promote the new-look retail automotive website, which re-launched Feb. 1, and coincide with the HendrickCars.com “2012 Indy Dream Weekend” sweepstakes.
The program will kick off during Speedweeks in Daytona Beach, Fla., with primary sponsorship of Phoenix Racing and 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Kurt Busch in the Feb. 25 Nationwide Series race and Feb. 26 Daytona 500. It will continue with primary sponsorship of JR Motorsports and driver Cole Whitt in the March 17 Nationwide event at Bristol, Tenn.

In addition, HendrickCars.com will be a major associate sponsor of the Richard Childress Racing No. 33 Chevrolet with driver Elliott Sadler in NASCAR’s biggest race, the Daytona 500.

“Last year’s Daytona 500 broadcast alone averaged more than 15 million viewers, and we expect 2012 will be even stronger,” said Rick Hendrick, Chairman of Hendrick Automotive Group, which owns HendrickCars.com. “Combined with our sponsorship in the Nationwide Series, that’s tens of millions of people seeing our brand, hearing our message and then visiting HendrickCars.com. We wanted to showcase the new site, and there’s no more effective marketing tool than NASCAR.”

In conjunction with the sponsorship, HendrickCars.com is launching the “2012 Indy Dream Weekend” sweepstakes. From Feb. 13 through March 19, visitors can log onto HendrickCars.com to register for a chance to win a weekend for two at the July 29 Sprint Cup race in Indianapolis. The winner and a guest will receive behind-the-scenes access, a tour of the historic racing venue, VIP seats in a trackside suite and more. The winner will be announced March 23 at www.HendrickCars.com.

The sponsorship of Whitt pairs HendrickCars.com with an up-and-coming young driver and Nationwide Series rookie-of-the-year contender. In his first season at JR Motorsports, Whitt, 20, is joining a No. 88 team that finished fourth in the championship standings in 2011.

SLS Receives "Best Car Of The Year" For Third Time In A Row.

Stuttgart – The Mercedes-Benz M-Class is the best car among off-road vehicles, while the SLS AMG Roadster super sports car is the best cabriolet. These are the results of a reader survey conducted by specialist German motoring magazine "auto motor und sport". The SLS has now received the title of "Best car of the year" for the third time in a row.

The motoring magazine "auto motor und sport" has been conducting its vote for the "Best cars of the year" in ten different categories since 1977. This year around 210,000 readers from 14 European countries, as well as China and Brazil, took part in the long-standing survey to decide the best cars of 2012. When it came to off-road vehicles, the majority of readers voted for the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, thereby acknowledging not only its characteristically distinctive design and variable interior, with that all-important sense of well-being, but also its excellent energy efficiency and thus environmental acceptability. In addition, the permanent all-wheel drive system of the M-Class also impressed with its well-balanced ride comfort combined with excellent driving dynamics both on and off road, along with the car's outstanding range and high level of safety. The G-Class picked up second place.
In the case of the cabriolets, the readers of "auto motor und sport" placed the SLS AMG Roadster in pole position, honoring it as the best car of 2012 in its category and as such paying tribute to both its uniquely exciting design as well its exquisite engineering and technology. Mercedes-Benz SLS GT3 finish 1-2-3 at Dubai

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 scored a commanding 1-2-3 in the Dubai 24-hour race (January 12th - 14th, 2012). The Abu Dhabi Black Falcon team claimed victory with Thomas Jäger (GER), Sean Edwards (ENG), Jeroen Bleekemolen (NED) and Khaled Al Qubaisi (UAE). After setting a new distance record of 628 race laps, final driver, Al Qubaisi, drove the gullwing with starting number 3 across the finish line. This first place was also the maiden victory for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 in a 24-hour race.

The first of HEICO Motorsport’s Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3’s came home second, two laps down. Driving duties in the car with starting number 6 were shared by Maximilian Buhk (GER), Christiaan Frankenhout (NED), Max Nilsson (SWE), Andreas Zuber (AUT) and Bernd Schneider (GER). Schneider, the five-time DTM champion and AMG brand ambassador, drove in both of HEICO Motorsport’s cars as a part of AMG’s Customer Sports driver support program. In the team’s sister car with starting number 16, he had been entered to partner Kenneth Heyer (GER), Andreas Simonsen (SWE) and Rodolfo Gonzalez (VEN). In a dramatic finish, final driver Simonsen managed to bring a small margin home to round out the clean sweep of the podium by finishing third.

The fourth of the four SLS AMG GT3s that were entered for the race also finished among the front-runners. The Gravity Charouz Racing team with Vincent Radermecker (BEL), Loris de Sordi (BEL), Eric Lux (LUX), Gerard Lopez (ESP) and Tomas Enge (CZE) was classified seventh to complete the good overall performance for the gullwing cars.

All four Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3s put their mark on the Dubai 24-hour race by showing a commanding performance from the very beginning. In the field of the 72 cars, the gullwings were among the fastest entries right away. Having started from 15th place on the grid, the Abu Dhabi Black Falcon SLS AMG GT3 moved up into the lead for the first time after two hours. Consistent fast lap times also allowed the other gullwings to move up quickly into the ranks of the front-runners.

During the night, the teams from the AMG Customer Sports program continued their largely trouble-free run on the 5.39 km long Grand Prix circuit, maintaining their fast lap times and partly alternating in the lead. After one third of the race, the gullwing with starting number 3 finally took over the lead and held on to it until it crossed the finish line.

Thomas Jäger: “This is an optimal result for the Abu Dhabi Black Falcon team. It shows in an impressive way how performant and reliable the SLS AMG GT3 is. The driver changes went perfectly and, admittedly, we also had the necessary bit of luck: we didn’t get involved in any collisions, which isn’t self-evident with so many cars on such a short track. I want to thank the entire team for a great performance.”

Marc Schramm, managing director Black Falcon: “We came to Dubai to win. That is what we have said prior to the race and we lived up to it thanks to a strong team performance. As usual, the focus of our strategy was on consistency and that worked out in a fantastic way. Of course, I am also happy with having covered a new record distance of 628 laps. Thanks to the entire team and, of course, also to Mercedes-AMG and HWA for the support.”

Bernd Schneider: “During the night, we had a minor problem, that’s why we stood in the pits for a couple of minutes. Had it not been for that, it could even have been slightly better. To be honest, I now feel a little bit knocked out after having raced with both cars, but the success more than makes up for this. After all, finishing second and third at the same time doesn’t happen every day. Congratulations also to the Abu Dhabi Black Falcon team for this well-deserved race win.”

Most successful newcomer in the 2011 motor sport season

This year's Dubai 24-hour race marks the beginning of the second racing season for the SLS AMG GT3. In its debut year of 2011, the gullwing became probably the most successful newcomer in the 2011 motorsport season: from March 2011 on, 40 race cars were delivered to international customer teams that took part in races on four continents and won a total of 25 races. The success story was crowned by the team title of the FIA GT3 European Championship for HEICO Motorsport and its two Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3s – the first title for the gullwing in its first full racing season.

The race car: performance and safety

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 is the racing version of the SLS AMG for the customer sport. It is designed for sprint and endurance races and is developed and produced by Mercedes-AMG in close cooperation with HWA AG. HWA is responsible for the development and deployment of the AMG-Mercedes DTM racing team on behalf of and in constant consultation with Mercedes-Benz Motorsport. First 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible auctioned for charity

Chevrolet, team owner Rick Hendrick and Jeff Gordon are teaming up for the auction of the first Corvette 427 Convertible offered to the public at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale collector car auction on Saturday, Jan. 21. Watch it on SPEED at 4 p.m. ET. Proceeds from the sale will benefit AARP Foundation’s Drive to End Hunger initiative.

Hendrick Motors donates to Children's Attention Home in Rock Hill.

For the second year in a row, the employees of Hendrick Motors of Charlotte decided they wanted to help those less fortunate in our community.

     The team wanted to do something related to gifts for children who would otherwise go without. We were directed to The Children’s Attention Home ( http://www.attentionhome.org/ ) in Rock Hill, SC.
     The Children’s Attention Home is a private, non-profit emergency shelter for abandoned, neglected, and abused children ages infant to 18.
     When we contacted the home to see what they needed we were really surprised at what they said. It was not presents or gifts that were needed by these kids- it was the sheer basic necessities of life that they needed- everything from toothbrushes to flour to cough medicine to socks. They explained that most times these kids arrive at the home in the middle of the night, scared and with nothing more than the pajamas on their back.

Our team responded in true Hendrick fashion and went to work with a purpose and a mission. We challenged ourselves to completely fill a Mercedes Sprinter Cargo Van and deliver the supplies to the Children’s Home. We accomplished our goal and then our teammates at Hendrick BMW stepped in and completely filled another Mercedes Benz Sprinter Cargo Van! Together our teammates supplied over $10,000 worth of supplies and an additional $700 in cash.
We are very grateful to work for such a fantastic organization that provides us employees and our families the opportunity to be able to help others- especially the wonderful people at the Children’s Attention Home.

Lightweight, athletic, luxurious

Stuttgart – With the completely redeveloped SL, Mercedes-Benz continues a tradition that began 60 years ago. The letters "SL" have ever since been synonymous with a symbiosis of sportiness, style and comfort – and with groundbreaking innovations. The new SL has been produced for the first time almost entirely from aluminium and weighs up to 140 kilograms less than its predecessor. Its highly rigid all-aluminium bodyshell provides the basis for agile, sporty handling that has been taken to an entirely new level, coupled with exemplary roll characteristics and ride comfort. Even better driving dynamics come courtesy of the new BlueDIRECT engines; they are more powerful yet at the same time up to 29 percent more economical than the engines in the outgoing generation. Other new features include the unique Frontbass system, which turns the luxury sports car into a concert hall regardless of whether the top is open or closed, and the highly efficient adaptive windscreen wipe/wash system MAGIC VISION CONTROL; it supplies water from the wiper blade as required and depending on the direction of wipe.
     Compared with its successful predecessor, the new Mercedes-Benz SL offers considerably more comfort and sportiness, setting new standards in the luxury roadster class. Added to which is uncompromising day-to-day suitability, which turns the SL into an incomparable all-rounder among sports cars. In short, anyone that talks about the new SL is bound to be talking about the ultimate in passionate, refined motoring.
     Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars: "There are around 900 million cars in the world and thousands of models. But there are only a handful of automotive icons. Our SL is one of them: it has class, it has style, it is the ultimate in comfort and luxury. But it combines all that with incredible sportiness and dynamism. You would struggle to find a car that embodies Gottlieb Daimler's aspiration more perfectly than our new SL: the best or nothing."

Lighter and more rigid: sophisticated all-aluminium bodyshell
     The new-generation Mercedes-Benz SL takes the meaning of the famous letters "SL" – sporty, lightweight – literally. Consistent weight reduction is one of the most outstanding design characteristics in the new SL as was the case in its namesake, the original SL of 1952 with its lightweight tubular frame. For the first time Mercedes-Benz has implemented an all-aluminium bodyshell in a series-production model. Only very few components consist of other materials. The designers use the even lighter magnesium for the cover behind the tank. High-strength steel tubing is integrated in the A-pillars for safety reasons.
     The new aluminium bodyshell weighs around 110 kilograms less than it would using the steel technology from the predecessor. "The effect is rather as if a heavyweight-class passenger had got out of the car" says Dr Thomas Rudlaff, responsible for the aluminium bodyshell at Mercedes-Benz. "The result is perceptible and measurable. Less weight means more dynamism and less consumption. In other words: the motoring enjoyment increases, the environmental burden sinks."
     The aluminium structure is not only lighter but also proves superior to the predecessor's steel construction in terms of rigidity, safety and comfort. This is achieved thanks, among other things, to its intelligent lightweight construction with components optimised for their specific task. Thus, diverse processes
are used to make different kinds of aluminium depending on the use the component is to be given: the parts are made by chill casting or vacuum die-casting, worked into extruded aluminium sections or into aluminium panels of different thicknesses. The result: high rigidity, high safety levels and better vibration characteristics.
     Although the new SL is even more comfortable and has more assistance systems on-board than its predecessor and therefore does actually sacrifice some of the weight saved through the aluminium bodyshell, the scales show some astonishing figures: the new SL 500 (1.785 kg) weighs around 125 kilograms less than its predecessor. On balance, the SL 350 (1.685 kg) is even 140 kilograms lighter – all thanks to a host of other intelligent enhanced details to reduce weight, which Mercedes-Benz has also implemented in the new SL in addition to the aluminium bodyshell.

Driving pleasure: frugal, powerful engines and agile suspension
     Powerful while accelerating, effortlessly superior across all speeds, nimble on winding roads – the new SL provides ample driving pleasure. Apart from the powerful engines, the sportily tuned yet comfortable suspension, which also boasts intelligent lightweight construction, proves outstanding. For instance, the steering knuckles and spring links on the front axle are also made out of aluminium to reduce the unsprung masses. The same also applies to virtually all the wheel location components on the rear axle.
     The new SL is available with two different suspension systems: the SL features semi-active adjustable damping as standard. The optional active suspension system ABC (Active Body Control) is available as an alternative.Both suspension variants are combined with a new electromechanical Direct-Steer system featuring speed-sensitive power steering and a ratio that can be varied across the steering wheel angle. This ensures excellent straight-line stability and, therefore, a high degree of assuredness when travelling at motorway speeds and makes the SL very agile. It also reduces the amount of steering required when parking and manoeuvring.
     The new V8 in the SL 500 develops 320 kW (435 hp) from its displacement of 4663 cc and thus around 12 percent more than its predecessor despite some 0.8 litres less displacement. The fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 22 percent. At the same time, the torque has increased from 530 Nm to 700 Nm – a gain of 32 percent. Although the displacement remains the same at 3499 cc, the new V6 engine in the new SL 350 develops 225 kW (306 hp) and delivers 370 Nm of torque. It uses just 6.8 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres, making it almost 30 percent more economical than its predecessor. Both engine variants come with a standard-fit ECO start/stop function. The 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission, which has been optimised in relation to fuel consumption and comfort, also contributes to the exemplary, low fuel consumption. The fuel economy of the BlueDIRECT engines takes nothing away from the roadster's raciness. Quite the contrary: the SL 350 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, making it three tenths of a second faster than its predecessor. The SL 500 takes just 4.6 seconds – eight tenths less than the previous SL 500.

Interior: aesthetic, stylish, sporty
     The new SL combines its aesthetically honed profile, which follows the Mercedes-Benz tradition, with a luxurious feel. Fine materials, perfectly finished with great attention to detail, distinguish the style and character of the interior.
     Compared with its predecessor, the new generation of the SL is much longer 4612 mm (+50 mm) and wider 1877 mm (+57 mm), providing more room for more comfort in the interior, too. Shoulder room (+37 mm) and elbow room (+28 mm) have been increased, exceeding the dimensions normally found in this vehicle class. Clear lines create a formally coherent internal space within this comfortable interior. Generously used wood trim extends from the centre console across the dashboard into the doors, creating a pleasant wrap-around effect. Three types of wood along with two different aluminium trim finishes are available. Perfectly in tune with the roadster's character, it combines the unpretentious atmosphere of a high-performance sports car with a comfortable, stylish ambience one comes to expect in a luxurious touring car.

Design: classic SL proportions
     The designers have brought the latest generation of the SL unmistakably to life on the basis of tradition but added new perspectives and visions. The result is a stylishly sporty and elegant luxury sports car with the classic hallmark SL balanced proportions: the long bonnet gives way to a compact passenger compartment that is set well back. A wide, powerful rear end giving the impression of raciness provides the finishing touch. A handful of elaborately styled lines define the powerfully sculpted and yet calm surfaces of the flanks. Finely worked details, a striking rear end as well as ventilation grilles with chromed fins from the dynamic traditional Mercedes-Benz design heritage visually emphasise the SL legend. An upright classic sports car radiator grille clearly marks out the new SL visually as a prestigious member of the current Mercedes-Benz sports car family. The centrally positioned star is a contemporary reinterpretation of the famous trademark, which now extends into the centre section with its organically flowing contours.
     Dynamically slanting headlamps set well to the outside flank the striking front end and give the new roadster its own unmistakable face. The headlamps come as standard with the Intelligent Light System (ILS). With five different lighting functions that are tailored to typical driving and weather conditions, and are activated depending on the driving situation, they offer the driver a much better illuminated field of vision. The striking sidelights and the horizontal strip of the daytime running lamps in the far ends of the bumper feature
LED technology.

Vario-roof: MAGIC SKY CONTROL as an option
     The sixth generation of the SL also offers a vario-roof that can be retracted into the boot using an electrohydraulic mechanism to save space, which converts the SL in a few seconds into a roadster or a coupé, depending on the driver's wishes and the weather. Unlike its predecessor, three versions are available for the new SL: painted, with glass roof or with the unique panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL. The transparent roof switches to light or dark at the push of a button. When light it is virtually transparent, offering an open-air experience even in cold weather. In its dark state the roof provides welcome shade and prevents the interior from heating up in bright sunlight. The frame of the three roof versions is made of magnesium, making the roofs around six kilograms lighter than the roof on the predecessor, thus providing a lower centre of gravity for the vehicle and, in turn, better agility. The engineers have refined the operating mechanism for the roof and boot lid. It now takes less than 20 seconds to open or close the roof completely.

Aerodynamics: new standards
     The design of the new SL not only meets high aesthetic demands but it also boasts exemplary aerodynamic qualities. As such, the roadster merits best marks in its segment in four important disciplines:
• With the lowest drag coefficient (cd = 0.27 in the SL 350);
• With the lowest wind noise that is virtually on a par with a closed saloon;
• With the best comfort for open-top motoring so that you can still have the roof down even at high speed;
• With virtually no accumulation of dirt on the side windows.

Two world premieres: Frontbass and MAGIC VISION CONTROL
     With two innovations, the new SL remains true to its tradition as technological trendsetter:
• MAGIC VISION CONTROL is a new, intelligent and highly efficient wipe/wash system. The innovative wiper blade concept always applies the washer fluid just in front of the wiper blade lip via the channels integrated into the blade – in both directions of wipe. As a result, no water is splashed onto the windscreen during spraying to disrupt the driver's visibility, while at the same time cleaning the windscreen perfectly. The water also remains on the windscreen, thus ensuring it is cleaned without troubling the occupants, even with the roof down. For the first time a fully heated wiper blade is available as an option that prevents snow or ice from forming on the blade in winter. This heating function also allows warm water to be applied directly onto the windscreen for the first time, even in cold temperatures.
• The likewise unique Frontbass system intelligently uses the free spaces in the aluminium structures in front of the footwell as resonance spaces for the bass loudspeakers. As a result the new SL features clear, crisp bass sounds that make possible a concert hall ambience even with the top down, and frees up space in the doors.
     Both innovations are part of the extensive standard equipment of the new SL.

HANDS-FREE ACCESS: 'kick' to open
     The HANDS-FREE ACCESS system is another Mercedes-Benz innovation which provides hands-free, contactless operation of the boot lid. The driver simply moves their foot in the vicinity of the rear bumper. Mercedes-Benz is the only car maker to offer a system which not only automatically opens the boot lid but closes it as well.

The safest roadster
     Thanks to the crash-optimised aluminium structure, standard-fit PRE-SAFE® and assistance systems on the same high level as the S-Class, the SL is the world's safest roadster. The rigid aluminium bodyshell forms a sturdy passenger compartment along with precisely defined deformation zones in the front and rear ends. In the event of the vehicle overturning, A-pillars made out of a mix of steel and aluminium and two roll-over bars protect the passenger compartment. The restraint systems including the two-stage driver and front passenger airbags have been further developed. A headbag integrally covers the side head-impact area. An additional thorax airbag in the seat backrest can protect the upper body in the event of a side impact. Another new feature is the crash-responsive NECK-PRO head restraints developed by Mercedes-Benz which are fitted as standard in the SL.
     An active bonnet and a front end with a large, yielding impact area help ensure pedestrian protection.
A safety highlight is the unrivalled anticipatory occupant protection system PRE-SAFE® developed by Mercedes-Benz which is fitted as standard. If the system detects a serious risk of an accident, it reflexively activates precautionary protective measures for the vehicle occupants, so that the seat belts and airbags are able to fulfil their protective function to the full during an impact. Additional post-crash measures supplement the integral safety concept and facilitate rapid assistance: regardless of the severity of the impact, the doors
can be automatically unlocked after an accident, the interior lighting activated and the side windows lowered by 50 millimetres to ventilate the interior more effectively. The steering wheel can also be moved upwards.

Standard: ATTENTION ASSIST AND ADAPTIVE BRAKE
     In the new SL too, a unique combination of driver assistance systems helps prevent accidents. These include the standard-fit drowsiness detection system ATTENTION ASSIST and the ADAPTIVE BRAKE. The latter features ABS, acceleration skid control (ASR) and active yaw control, and offers comfort and convenience functions in addition to safety functions. The ADAPTIVE BRAKE works in conjunction with the equally adaptive brake lights. In emergency braking situations, it warns vehicles behind with flashing brake lights.

PRE-SAFE® Brake: autonomous partial and emergency braking in response to a serious risk of a rear-end collision
     As an option DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control and PRE-SAFE® Brake, which is already well proven in other Mercedes-Benz models, are available. Both work on the basis of the same radar sensors. Once a serious risk of a rear-end collision is detected, the PRE-SAFE® Brake warns the driver initially and can initiate autonomous braking if the driver fails to react, and so either prevent the accident or at least mitigate its severity. PRE-SAFE® can also activate occupant protection measures.

Active Parking Assist: automatically manoeuvred into a parking space
     The Active Parking Assist is new in the SL. Using ultrasound sensors it can identify parking spaces and automatically steer the vehicle into the space while parking.

Infotainment: COMAND with internet access
     Even in the entry-level variant, the new Mercedes-Benz SL comes with the "Cockpit Management and Data System" COMAND. Functionality includes Bluetooth telephony along with simpler operation of the car phone. COMAND Online with internet access and DVD changer is also available as an option. It provides unlimited web browsing while the vehicle is stationary along with high-speed access to a Mercedes-Benz online service – for instance requesting a weather report or a special destination search. There is also the option of sending individual destinations and routes via Google Maps to the vehicle. For the first time, Mercedes-Benz is also offering new apps for the new SL: in addition to a free news app and a Facebook app, there are optional Mercedes-Benz apps for share prices and a car park finder. A Yelp app to look for restaurants is available for the US market.
     Both COMAND versions feature a high-resolution TFT colour display with 17.8 cm diagonal (800 x 480 pixels) at the side next to the instrument cluster. This screen arrangement prevents the driver from being distracted as far as possible.

The new SL can be ordered from 15 December 2011.

Team Heico Motorsport, with their two Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3s, secured the team title of the 2011 FIA GT3 European Championship in Zandvoort, Netherlands. It is the first title for the gullwing car in its first full racing season. In the final two races at Netherland’s North Sea coast, Christiaan Frankenhout/Patrick Hirsch came home fourth and sixth respectively while their teammates, Dominik Baumann/Brice Bosi, finished fifth and second. Thus, Heico Motorsport improved from third overall to the top in the final race. Congratulations to Heico Motorsport!

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 has finally matured into a winning car at the ADAC GT Masters – in its first year of racing! At EuroSpeedway Lausitz, where the 11th and 12th races of the season were held, the gullwing once again took its place on the roster of winners.

In the first race of the weekend, four of the nine starting Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3s finished in the top ten: the best drivers were Lance David Arnold and Andreas Zuber (Primajob Team Heico) in fifth place.

Sunday's result was even more impressive: In front of 16,500 spectators, two client teams made it onto the winners’ rostrum. Leading the pack were Thomas Jäger and Florian Stoll (MS Racing), who were the first to pass the checkered flag, after 33 captivating laps, in one of the most exciting races of the season.

Their victory was decided during the mandatory pit stop: Jäger delayed to enter the paddock a lap later than the previously leading Ferrari team, recouping a second during the lap – enough time to keep his lead after the pit stop. Florian Stoll fought off all challenges until the end of the race to secure the second victory for an SLS AMG GT3 in the ADAC GT Masters, with a 1.2-second lead.

The new C 63 AMG coupé – emotion and high performance at its most attractive

Affalterbach – In the shape of the new C 63 AMG coupé, Mercedes-AMG is presenting an autonomous, high-performance car that appeals to all the senses. Distinctive design is combined with a powerful drive package and dynamic handling. The new coupé joins the successful C-Class AMG family, which includes the classic saloon as well as the practical estate model. The C 63 AMG coupé also enhances the AMG family of coupés: in addition to the CLS 63 AMG and the CL 63 AMG, Mercedes-AMG GmbH is now able to offer another dream car featuring a high-performance eight-cylinder engine. The market launch commences in July 2011. Looking particularly attractive is the "Edition 1" of the C 63 AMG coupé, available from launch with exclusive equipment.

The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine in the C 63 AMG coupé delivers a maximum output of 336 kW (457 hp) and peak torque of 600 Newton metres for outstanding performance: the coupé is capable of accelerating from
0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and the top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited). With this kind of specification, the new two-door vehicle is set to take the lead in its segment.

The new coupé variant benefits from all the technology updates that have been adopted on the C 63 AMG saloon and estate models. Deploying the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with "Controlled Efficiency" mode as standard and a new power steering pump reduces fuel consumption: the combined NEDC figure for the C 63 AMG coupé is 12.0 l/100 km.

AMG performance package for a maximum output of 358 kW (487 hp)

This fuel consumption figure also applies to the performance version generating 358 kW (487 hp) courtesy of the AMG performance package. Available as an option, this package improves acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h to 4.4 seconds, with technology transferred from the SLS AMG responsible for the 22 kW (30 hp) increase in output. The forged pistons, connecting rods and lightweight crankshaft adopted from the gull-wing model's high-tech drive system save three kilograms in weight. This reduces inertia and enhances the agility and responsiveness of the high-revving, eight-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. Visually, the AMG performance package can be identified by the variable intake manifold in titanium grey under the bonnet, the AMG high-performance braking system with composite front discs and red painted brake callipers all round, the carbon fibre spoiler lip on the boot lid and the AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather with an Alcantara® grip area.

AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission as standard

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission provides direct and dynamic power delivery. Rather than using a torque converter, it has a compact, wet start-off clutch which reduces the losses associated with a conventional automatic transmission and thereby significantly lowers fuel consumption. Another major factor is the Controlled Efficiency "C" mode: by providing early, comfortable upshifts while maintaining the lowest possible engine speed and "soft" accelerator characteristics, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission helps the driver achieve better fuel economy figures.

The exclusive Mercedes-AMG power transmission is compelling because it offers a high level of variability and inspiring dynamism. The "S", "S+" and "M" modes deliver increased agility and are selected via the new rotary control established on the SLS AMG. Faster gear changes and higher revs add to the driver's emotional experience and double-declutching is active in "S", "S+" and "M" modes, boosting enjoyment further. Gear changes in the "S+" and "M" modes take just 100 milliseconds. The RACE START function allows the driver to explore the vehicle's full acceleration capability.

Specific AMG sports suspension for great dynamism and ride comfort

It is not just the engine and power transmission which influence the C 63 AMG coupé's dynamic quality – the AMG sports suspension and AMG high-performance braking system are also key here. Departing from the standard suspension, the top-of-the-range AMG model has a separate three-link front suspension, a reinforced multi-link independent rear suspension and a wider track all round. The stiffer elastokinematics, the autonomous axle kinematics with more negative camber all round and anti-roll bars with a larger cross-section result in higher agility and greater lateral acceleration. Specially adjusted spring and damper rates have optimised both the responsiveness of the suspension as well as the road roar and tyre vibration characteristics.

The AMG speed-sensitive sports steering with a direct ratio (13.5 : 1) affords excellent road feel and contributes to the agile, direct driving experience. This is complemented perfectly by three-stage ESP®: the Electronic Stability Program enables three individual control strategies to be accessed at the touch of a button. The driver can use the ESP® switch on the centre console to choose between ESP ON, ESP SPORT and ESP OFF modes. The AMG high-performance braking system with internally ventilated and perforated discs all-round ensures outstanding responsiveness, short stopping distances and high resistance to fading.

Confident and athletic: the design of the C 63 AMG coupé

Visually, the coupé version of the C 63 AMG has a confident, athletic presence that is reminiscent of the high-performance SL 63 AMG roadster. All AMG-specific design features have been skilfully combined with classic coupé proportions. This compact two-door car has an exciting low profile, powerful shoulderline and a narrow C-pillar. Other key styling aspects are the short overhang, long bonnet, steeply raked windscreen and long, stretched out roof.

As is typical for AMG, the car has a striking, arrow-shaped front section with the new AMG front apron including a lower cross strut painted in high-gloss black, AMG-specific LED daytime running lights and side air outlets. The large Mercedes star sits on a wing-shaped transverse louvre in the new radiator grille and, in conjunction with the modified aluminium bonnet with its powerdomes, underlines the impression of masculinity that the car exudes. Another eye-catching feature is the new clear-lens headlamps, especially when the optional Intelligent Light System (ILS) is also specified.

The wide front wing bearing the "6.3 AMG" legend, AMG side sill panels and the new 5-twin-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels painted in titanium grey with a high-gloss finish dominate the side view. Good contact with the road is provided by the wide 235/40 R 18 (front) and 255/35 R 18 (rear) tyres. At the rear, the unique AMG rear apron has a distinctive, black diffuser insert and three pronounced diffuser fins. The two chromed twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system also attract attention.

High-quality, dynamic interior

On opening the door of the C 63 AMG coupé, passengers enter a specially designed, dynamic interior of quality. The dashboard instrument panel with integrated screen immediately recalls the new CLS 63 AMG. Three sporty, separate round instruments provide information on speed, engine rpm, fuel level and coolant temperature. Other display options are incorporated into the AMG main menu. This can be accessed via the multifunctional buttons on the steering wheel. Located in the middle of the speedometer, the colour, three-dimensional TFT display welcomes the driver by showing an AMG logo when the ignition is switched on.

The specially shaped AMG performance steering wheel has been adopted from the CLS 63 AMG. It has flattened top and bottom sections, a metallic trim element, grip areas which are trimmed in perforated leather, and aluminium shift paddles. Trim elements in high-gloss, black piano lacquer on the dashboard instrument panel, centre console and doors emphasise high quality. Situated on the centre console is the rotary control for selecting the C, S, S+, M transmission modes and RACE START.

The new AMG sports seats with integral head restraints, EASY-ENTRY system and high-quality AMG badges have a sporty design with horizontal seamlines. Combined ARTICO/DINAMICA black upholstery comes as standard. DINAMICA is a new type of breathable man-made fibre which is pleasant to the touch and is characterised by low emissions and a high degree of lightfastness. The side bolsters of the AMG sports seats are covered in ARTICO while the centre panels of the seat cushions are upholstered with DINAMICA. The C 63 AMG coupé is a fully fledged four-seater with the rear seats featuring the same style of horizontal seamlines as the AMG sports seats. To enlarge the luggage compartment, the backrests in the rear can each be folded down as standard.

Available as an option, designo leather appointments give the interior a particularly exclusive character: four single colours and three two-tone combinations are available. These can also be complemented with "extended black designo leather appointments" for the top section of the dashboard.

High level of safety and new assistance systems

With seven airbags as standard, belt tensioners and belt-force limiters for all seats, the C 63 AMG coupé has extensive safety features. The airbags, which can deploy in milliseconds in the event of an accident, include front airbags and sidebags for the driver and front passenger, a kneebag on the driver's side, and windowbags. The side protection system – comprising windowbag and sidebag – optimises the level of protection afforded to individual parts of the body. With a number of driving assistance systems ranging from ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection to DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control, the C 63 AMG coupé provides a comprehensive level of driver support and protection. The assistance systems are familiar from the flagship S-Class and are based on the latest radar, camera and sensor technology. They cover frequent accident causes such as driving too closely, fatigue and darkness.

The new telematics generation featuring enhanced ease of operation

The C 63 AMG coupé also features a new telematics generation which received its global premiere on the saloon and estate models. Major new features include greater operating convenience, larger displays, phone book transfer, display of SMS messages, wireless music reproduction via Bluetooth and a USB interface now accommodated in the centre armrest.
The multimedia system COMAND Online now provides internet access for the first time. When the car is stationary, customers are able to browse freely or surf to a Mercedes-Benz Online service whose pages load particularly rapidly and are also easy to use while on the move. The integrated services include weather information and a special destination search via Google, as well as the option of downloading a route that has been previously configured on a PC using Google Maps and sent to the car. The navigation system of COMAND Online also has added functions. New features include a 3D display with plastic city views. Also new: routes covered can be recorded and repeated later, specific personal destinations can be saved or imported via an SD card and four alternative routes can be displayed on the navigation map, one of them
a particularly economical variation.
The Becker® MAP PILOT makes a low-cost navigation function, which can also be retrofitted, available for the entry-level Audio 20 CD radio. Its advantages over aftermarket solutions include integrated operation via the central controls and the Audio 20 display, a concealed location in the glove compartment and updating via an internet portal.

Specially designed, premium quality "Edition 1"

As for the CLS 63 AMG, an "Edition 1" of the new C 63 AMG coupé is also available. The Edition 1 features exciting, premium quality interior details that have been specially designed: the AMG sports seats, door centre panels and armrests come in black designo leather with contrasting porcelain seams on the sports seats. To match this, the trim parts have a porcelain piano-lacquer look and the two-tone AMG performance steering wheel sets black nappa leather off with a lower section in porcelain designo leather. An "Edition 1" badge on the trim indicates this version's singularity. AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in matt black make the C 63 AMG Coupé Edition 1 look equally special on the outside. As an option, the standard metallic paintwork can be swapped for a matt finish in designo magno night black or diamond white metallic BRIGHT.

Affalterbach – The successful Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG is now more attractive than ever: the modified design of the top-of-the-range C-Class model is complemented by numerous enhancements to its technology which deliver even more driving enjoyment while reducing fuel consumption significantly. The introduction of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with the "Controlled Efficiency" mode as standard along with a new power steering pump helps to reduce the combined NEDC fuel consumption by about ten percent to 12.0 l/100 km (Estate: 12.3 l/100 km). The output of the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine is unchanged at 336 kW (457 hp) and can be increased to a maximum of 358 kW (487 hp) with the optional AMG Performance package. Agility, grip and ride comfort have been enhanced as a result of numerous measures to optimise the AMG sports suspension. New assistance systems and a new generation of telematics with internet access increase both safety and comfort.

The rear view of the C 63 AMG also evokes the SL 63 AMG: the new AMG rear apron has a distinctive, black diffuser insert with three pronounced diffuser fins. The two chromed twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system are as pleasing to the ear as they are to the eye.

AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission from the SL 63 AMG

Under the skin, too, the top C-Class model boasts a wealth of new technology including the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission - another advanced feature adopted from the SL 63 AMG. Rather than using a torque converter, this innovative transmission has a wet start-off clutch which allows it to deliver a much more efficient, agile and direct response. Fuel consumption and emissions have been reduced significantly thanks to the "Controlled Efficiency" mode and a new power steering pump: at 12.0 litres per 100 km (Estate: 12.3 l/100 km) the combined NEDC fuel consumption of the C 63 AMG
is 1.4 litres (Estate: 1.3 litres) lower than that of the predecessor model; this represents a reduction in fuel consumption of some ten percent. The CO2 emissions figure is now 280 (Estate: 288) grams per kilometre. Both power variants have identical fuel consumption and emission figures.
The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission impresses with its exceptional flexibility: with four driving modes as well as double-declutching and RACE START functions it is as compatible with a relaxed, fuel-saving driving style as it is with high-speed laps on a closed racing circuit and extremely dynamic
overtaking manoeuvres. The Controlled Efficiency "C" mode is programmed to provide early, comfortable upshifts while maintaining the lowest possible engine speed to help the driver keep fuel consumption down. The "S", "S+" and "M" modes deliver increased agility through fast, responsive gear changes and higher revs. Gear changes in the "S+" and "M" modes take just 100 milliseconds.

The naturally aspirated eight-cylinder engine with its large displacement of 6208 cc develops 336 kW (457 hp) at 6800 rpm and attains a peak torque of 600 newton metres at 5000 rpm. A look at the performance figures confirms that the new C 63 AMG retains its predecessor's position as the top performing model in its segment: acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h takes just 4.5 seconds (Estate: 4.6 s) while the top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited).

Performance package: technology transfer from the SLS AMG

Even more dynamic performance is available with the optional AMG Performance package: this offers 358 kW (487 hp) and allows a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.4 seconds (Estate: 4.5 s). The Mercedes-AMG engine experts have achieved this increase in output thanks to a technology transfer from the SLS AMG: the forged pistons, connecting rods and the lightweight crankshaft all come from the gullwing model's engine. The reduced mass inertia of the components – which are three kilograms lighter than those of the standard version – allows the naturally aspirated eight-cylinder engine to rev up with even greater ease and agility. Models equipped with the performance package can be identified by the variable intake manifold painted in titanium grey under the bonnet, the AMG high-performance braking system with composite front discs and red painted brake calipers all round, the carbon-fibre spoiler lip on the boot lid (Saloon) and the AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather with an Alcantara® grip area.

Optimised suspension, new steering system reduces fuel consumption

The AMG sports suspension with a special front axle, reinforced rear axle and wider track all round has undergone thorough modification; the driver benefits from this in two ways as the C 63 AMG now offers greater driving enjoyment and ride comfort at all times. The new, stiffer elastokinematics, the revised axle kinematics with more negative camber all round and the new rear-axle anti-roll bar with a larger cross-section result in higher agility and greater lateral acceleration. But driving dynamics is not the only area in which progress has been made: new spring and damper rates have optimised both the responsiveness of the suspension as well as the road roar and tyre vibration characteristics.

The AMG speed-sensitive sports steering with a direct ratio (13.5 : 1) has a newly developed power-steering pump which plays a decisive role in reducing the fuel consumption. This is because the power assistance for the steering only requires energy when the driver is actually making steering movements. Reliable deceleration at all times is ensured by the AMG high-performance braking system with internally ventilated and perforated discs all round.

Interior: high quality and perceived value

Even a quick glance at the interior of the C 63 AMG reveals the considerable progress which has been made: the completely new dashboard design with an integrated screen impresses with its particularly attractive appearance and the superior quality of the details which immediately bring the new CLS 63 AMG to mind. The quality look and feel meet the highest standards. The new, all-colour, three-dimensional TFT display in the middle of the redesigned speedometer welcomes the driver by showing the AMG logo. The new three-spoke AMG performance steering wheel - another feature adopted from the CLS 63 AMG – which is trimmed in nappa leather and features a metallic trim element has flattened top and bottom sections as well as grip areas which are specially shaped and trimmed in perforated leather for perfect steering control. Aluminium shift paddles allow manual gear selection.

Fine trim elements in brushed dark aluminium are to be found on the dashboard and doors. Situated in the centre console, which is enhanced with high-gloss black piano lacquer trim elements, is the new rotary control for selecting the transmission modes C, S, S+, M and RACE START. The special AMG sports seats with integral head restraints and adaptive backrests are available from launch with combined ARTICO/DINAMICA black upholstery. DINAMICA is a new type of breathable man-made fibre which is pleasant to the touch and is characterised by low emissions and a high degree of lightfastness. The side bolsters of the AMG sports seats are covered in ARTICO while the centre panels of the seat cushions are also upholstered with DINAMICA.

Available as an option, designo leather appointments give the interior of the C 63 AMG a particularly exclusive character: four single colours and three two-tone combinations are available. As a further option, these can be complemented with "extended black designo leather appointments" for the top section of the dashboard and the upper section of the door linings.

New generation of telematics is the first to feature internet access

The C-Class sees the debut of a new telematics generation which will also be gradually introduced in other model series. Major new features include greater operating convenience, larger displays, telephone directory transfer via Bluetooth®, wireless music reproduction and a USB interface in the centre console.

The top-of-the-range COMAND Online system now provides internet access for the first time. When the car is stationary the customer can browse freely or surf to a Mercedes-Benz Online service whose pages load particularly rapidly. The integrated services include weather information and a local search function as well as the option of downloading a route that has been previously configured on a PC using Google maps and sent to the car. The navigation system of COMAND Online also has added functions. New features include a 3D display with virtual city views.

Also new: routes covered can be recorded and repeated later, specific personal destinations can be entered and stored and three alternative routes can be displayed on the screen - one of them a particularly economical variant. As a first in the C-Class, the Becker MAP PILOT makes a low-cost navigation function, which can also be retrofitted, available for the entry-level Audio 20 radio. Its advantages over aftermarket solutions include integrated operation via the COMAND Controller and the Audio 20 display.

C 63 AMG – fast-track to best-seller status

Launched in summer 2007, the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG rapidly established itself as a real best-seller in the AMG model range. Customers all over the world appreciated this unique combination of a powerful and torquey naturally aspirated eight-cylinder engine, a distinctive sound, an agile sports suspension and expressive design. Over the past three and a half years more than 17,000 AMG enthusiasts have chosen the C 63 AMG, 88 percent of them opting for the Saloon (Estate: 12 percent). The AMG Performance package, which has been available since autumn 2009, is proving particularly popular: over 30 percent of all the C 63 AMG models delivered in 2010 were specified with this attractive option.

AMG Mercedes driver DiResta is 2010 DTM Champion, AMG drivers 2nd and 3rd

The 2010 DTM season has ended at the Shanghai Circuit in China and AMG Driving Academy sponsored driver Paul DiResta is the Driver's Champion. AMG Mercedes drivers rounded out the top three with Gary Paffett nipping season long points leader Bruno Spengler in this final race. The top placing Audi driver was defending Champion Timo Scheider in 4th. AMG Mercedes had already clinched the DTM Manufacturer's crown at the penultimate round of the series in Adria.

The final race was won by Paffett in his Salzgitter HWA AMG C-Class, the 9th AMG Mercedes win of the 11 race season, with DiResta's second place enough to earn him the crown worn by such legendary AMG drivers before him as Bernd Schneider and Klaus Ludwig. The DTM Driver's title has not been won by an AMG Mercedes driver since Schneider in 2006.

The Holiday dinner table back in Scotland will be plenty festive as DiResta's cousin Dario Franchitti won the 2010 Indy 500 and was crowned the Izod Indy Car Series Champion for the second year in a row.

DiResta is now rumored to be headed to Formula One where he has been reserve driver for the Force India Mercedes team. This would open up the best seat in the DTM in the crack HWA Team for 2011.

The 2011 season will again see the specification of the cars frozen at 2009 designs ahead of an all new DTM formula for 2012 when BMW rejoins the series and DTM prepares for their style of racing to be exported around the world including to the US for 2013.

SLS AMG and R-Class emerge as the most popular cars

Stuttgart – Mercedes-Benz has taken three first places in Europe's largest public internet survey. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG even scored top honours in two awards, winning both the super sports car and coupé category as well as simultaneously being voted Europe's most popular car. The Mercedes-Benz R-Class also picked up an Internet Auto Award 2010 as Europe's most popular van.
This is the ninth time that AutoScout24, Europe's largest online automobile marketplace offering around 1.8 million vehicles, has conducted an online survey to discover Europe's most popular cars. More than 230,000 participants from seven countries cast their votes to choose their favourites from among 343 vehicles.

When it came to voting for Europe's most popular car, the answer could not have been clearer: the majority of the voting public opted for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG super sports car. A unique and exciting style combined with an exquisite level of engineering - all of which evoke memories of that sports car legend from the 1950s, the 300 SL - enabled the gullwing to take top honours in this category. On top of this, the SLS also emerged as the clear winner in the super sports car and coupé category.

The most popular vehicle in the van and compact van category, according to the online community, was the Mercedes-Benz R-Class. By voting in this way, the participants acknowledged the fact that the R-Class not only boasts an exciting design, but also meets the requirements of contemporary-minded, leisure-oriented people looking for a versatile car that also provides agile handling. It combines first-class comfort for up to seven people, a high degree of variability and a prestigious character.

In Germany, other Mercedes-Benz vehicles were also voted into the top places. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class won in the medium-size category and the E-Class in the intermediate category, while the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet picked up the most votes in the cabriolet category.

Big racing weekend for AMG.

AMG C-Class driver Paul DiResta made it 3 in a row in the DTM (German Touring Car Championship) with a convincing win over Audi's Timo Scheider at Hockenheim. This win puts DiResta in the lead of the Driver's Championship over HWA team mate Bruno Spengler who failed to finish. The DTM Manufacturer's Championship is virtually assured for AMG Mercedes, as is the Driver's Championship as the Audi drivers and Teams are now mathematically eliminated with only 2 races remaining in the 2010 DTM season. In future DTM news, old rival BMW has confirmed that they will be joining AMG Mercedes and Audi in the new look 2012 DTM. Some old battles will be resumed between the major high performance German brands.

While the AMG C-Class drivers were having things their own way over at Hockenheim across the country at the Nurburgring in the VLN Endurance series, the SLS AMG GT3 scored its maiden victory in only its second outing. The 4 hour race was won by SLS GT3 test driver Tomas Jager and Christopher Haase in a Black Falcon Racing entered SLS AMG GT3. Another SLS AMG GT3 entered by Mamerow Racing with Bernd Schneider and Chris Mamerow qualified on pole but was eliminated in a crash while running second. A new era in AMG customer racing has started. The SLS GT3's will run one more VLN race this year before an all out attack on the major European endurance racing series' in 2011 with a number of customer team entered cars. Three SLS GT3's are expected at the Dubai 24 Hour Race on January 14-15, 2011.

Another chapter in the motorsports history of AMG opens this weekend when the SLS AMG GT3 makes its racing debut on the famous Nurburgring in Germany as part of the German VLN Series.

AMG drivers Bernd Schneider and Tomas Jager will handle the driving duties.

Gullwing takes to the racetrack for the first time

Racing debut for the SLS AMG GT3 on the legendary Nürburgring "Nordschleife"

Affalterbach – On Saturday, 25th September 2010 the new SLS AMG GT3 will join the starting lineup on the racetrack for the first time. Bernd Schneider and Thomas Jäger will be taking part in the four-hour race for the VLN Nürburgring endurance championship. Training for the 42nd ADAC Barbarossa Cup begins at 8.30 a.m. and the race starts at 12.00 noon.

This first racetrack appearance of the SLS AMG GT3 at the VLN event (VLN = Association of Nürburgring Endurance Cup Organisers, with 10 motorsport clubs) is a fixed part of the development and testing programme which commenced in June 2010. The four-hour race on the legendary "Nordschleife" ("North Loop") of the Nürburgring will test the gullwing model under realistic racing conditions. The focus will not only be on fast lap times, but also on the durability of all components, service-friendliness and smooth procedures during pitstops and driver changes. During this race on the 20.8-kilometre long Nürburgring "Nordschleife" – which is acknowledged to be the world's most demanding racetrack – the chosen suspension setup will be assessed under racing conditions for the first time.

Developed according to the GT3 rules of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile), the SLS AMG GT3 will take to the starting line for the VLN race in prototype class E1-XP.

Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Norbert Haug: "The Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 will start a new era in Mercedes-Benz customer motorsports. This car is an exciting and spectacular sporting tool for committed private teams and talented private drivers. Together with our well-proven sports and touring car partner HWA, AMG will establish a customer motorsports department, and ensure the usual high level of Mercedes service for its motorsports customers."

The drivers for this racetrack debut of the SLS AMG GT3 are Bernd Schneider (46) – who has been a Mercedes-Benz works driver for many years and is also an AMG brand ambassador – and Thomas Jäger (33). With five DTM titles, one ITC championship and one FIA GT championship to his name, Bernd Schneider is one of the most successful German racing drivers. Thomas Jäger is the reigning Porsche Carrera Cup (Germany) champion, and drove in the DTM for Mercedes-Benz between 2000 and 2003. This season he is lining up in the ADAC GT-Masters (Germany). Like Bernd Schneider, he is a member of the instructor team at the AMG Driving Academy.

Cooperation between AMG and HWA AG

The racing version of the SLS AMG is being developed and produced by AMG in close cooperation with HWA AG. The HWA team is one of the most successful in international motorsport, as shown by nine driver championships in the DTM and ITC, as well as two championship titles in the FIA GT Championships. No other brand has won as many DTM races and DTM titles as AMG-Mercedes.

Interested racing teams can enter the new SLS AMG GT3 in all race series under the FIA GT3 regulations, for example the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT-Masters and the endurance championship organised by the VLN (Association of Nürburgring Endurance Cup Organisers, with 10 motorsport clubs) as well as the 24-hour races at the Nürburgring or Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium).

Mercedes-Benz USA Driving the USTA's Green Misson at the 2010 US Open

Alec Baldwin, celebrity spokesperson for the USTA green initiatives arrives at the US Open on Opening Night in the Mercedes-Benz F-CELL, a hydrogen electric vehicle powered by a fuel cell.

As the Official Vehicle of the US Open, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) announces today that it is a driving force behind the USTA’s commitment to green initiatives by providing Mercedes-Benz S400 HYBRID sedans and Mercedes-Benz F-CELL (Hydrogen Electric Vehicle powered by a fuel cell) vehicles representing 60 percent of the fleet used for player and VIP transportation during the 2010 US Open tournament.

As an innovator in luxury eco-transportation, Mercedes-Benz is dispatching its F-CELL hydrogen fuel vehicles with zero emissions in addition to 75 S400 HYBRID vehicles in an effort to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the US Open tournament. The US Open launched its comprehensive environmental program three years ago and continues to expand green initiatives each year. In 2010, key initiatives include recycling, energy management, composting and utilizing paper products comprised of at least 30% post-consumer waste. MERCEDES-BENZ S400 HYBRID
The S400 HYBRID features the world’s first lithium-ion battery designed specifically for automotive use. MERCEDES-BENZ F-CELL

AMG Mercedes C-Class drivers scored their 5th 1-2 finish of the year in the DTM (German Touring Car Masters) Championship as Paul DiResta drove his AMG Driving Academy C-Class from pole position to a 7.4 second victory over HWA Team mate and series points leader Bruno Spengler at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent in the UK. Abt Audi Sport A4 driver and reigning Champion Timo Scheider finished 3rd while up and coming Spanish youngster Miguel Molina brought his Abt Rookie Sport A4 home 4th. Salzgitter HWA AMG C-Class driver Gary Paffett came across the line in fifth. This win is the 158th for AMG Mercedes since joining the DTM in 1986.

AMG Mercedes Teams in the DTM (German Touring Masters) Championship achieved their 3rd top 3 sweep of the finishing order in the 2010 series as Canadian Bruno Spengler drove his Daimler Bank sponsored C-Class DTM AMG to his second win of the year at the famous Nurburgring. In doing so he extends his lead in the season Drivers points chase over 2nd place AMG driver Jamie Green.

Following Spengler across the line was AMG Driving Academy driver Paul DiResta (just a few hours later first cousin Dario Franchitti would win the Indy Car race at Mid-Ohio), in his C-Class DTM AMG.

In third was Salzgitter driver Gary Paffett in his C-Class DTM AMG. The highest finishing Audi was reigning Champion Timo Scheider in 4th. There were 7 AMG Mercedes drivers in the Top Ten. This win is the 156th for AMG Mercedes since entering the series in 1988.

Discussions about the new DTM rules for 2012 continue with the Japan GT Series likely to adopt the DTM rules package for their series allowing DTM spec cars to race there and Japan GT spec cars to race in the DTM, as BMW returns to the series. There are also rumors of Opel evaluating a return to the series. Discussions are also ongoing with Grand American Road Racing in the US about the possibility of DTM spec cars running along side of their Daytona Prototypes in the Grand Am Rolex Sports car series.

2010 Semi-Annual Report Shows Women rank Mercedes, Jeep, Lexus, BMW and Chrysler Highest

PITTSBURGH- Women-Drivers.com has released its semi-annual 2010 report showing the Top Auto Brands as rated by women’s dealership reviews. Each year, the company tracks thousands of consumer reviews with regards to women’s Purchasing, Browsing and Service experience at car dealerships in the United States.

Annual auto industry benchmarking study measures how each brand’s dealerships treat car shoppers

MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA – July 12, 2010 – Mercedes-Benz dealerships ranked highest in the newly released 2010 Pied Piper Prospect Satisfaction Index® (PSI®) U.S. Auto Industry Study, one of a series of unique national benchmarking studies using “mystery shoppers” to measure and compare how consumers are treated when shopping.

Detroit brands led the way in 2010 for most improvement, with Ford, Lincoln and Chevrolet scoring above the industry average for the first time since PSI auto industry benchmarking began four years ago.

The independent study sent 3,658 hired anonymous “mystery shoppers” into auto dealerships nationwide, then used the patent-pending PSI process to compile the results into an accurate measurement of how each brand’s dealerships treat car shoppers.

Overall auto industry performance improved notably from 2009 to 2010, with 25 of the 34 major auto brands achieving higher PSI scores. Although luxury brands continue to lead the industry for treatment of car shoppers, the improvement of mainstream brands has been striking. For example, when comparing the 2010 Ford shopping experience with that of 2007, we find that the typical Ford salesperson was 52% more likely to discuss vehicle features unique from the competition, 29% more likely to introduce him or herself and 65% more likely to proactively mention the availability of different financing options.

Despite the widespread and continual improvement in how cars are sold, there is still plenty of room for improvement, although not necessarily in the expected areas. For example, the stereotypical car shopping experience of having an overbearing salesperson happened far less often (6% of the time) than the opposite: a salesperson who simply was not helpful enough and did not devote enough time and attention to the car shopper (18% of the time). Another area of potential disappointment for car shoppers has been the decision by some brands and dealerships to limit or discontinue offering brochures. Industry wide, salespeople proactively offered a brochure following a visit only 57% of the time; the lowest level in the last three years.

Substantial variation in shopper treatment by brand continues. For example, both Volvo and BMW salespeople mentioned their brand’s maintenance program and associated costs 80% of the time or more, while shoppers looking for a Scion, Mitsubishi or Dodge heard about it less than one-third of the time. Lexus and Porsche salespeople reviewed the vehicle’s features and controls 95% of the time before leaving on a test drive, but BMW salespeople reviewed it only 74% of the time. At Land Rover, Smart or Mini dealerships, salespeople nearly always handled the entire visit themselves and rarely introduced shoppers to dealership management. In contrast, at Suzuki, Volkswagen, Nissan, Toyota and Infiniti dealerships the salespeople introduced shoppers to dealership management to help close the sale 40% of the time or more. Salespeople who work for dealerships selling Nissan, Mazda, Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota or Volkswagen were most likely to follow-up with shoppers within 48 hours after the initial visit, while salespeople who work for dealerships selling Buick, Mitsubishi, Chevrolet and Acura were least likely to follow-up with shoppers after the initial visit.

“Today’s car shoppers are armed with far more vehicle and pricing information than ever before,” said Fran O’Hagan, CEO of Pied Piper Management Co., LLC. “Successful brands and dealerships have responded by acting as helpful enablers for today’s shoppers. At the most successful dealerships, the stereotype of the old-fashioned car salesperson no longer exists.”

Green Makes it 3 in a row at Norisring DTM-Spengler still leads the points

AMG Mercedes continued their roll towards the 2010 DTM Championship, and Jamie Green made it a hat-trick with his 3rd win in a row at the famous Norisring circuit in Nuremburg on Sunday.

Green's Junge Stern AMG C-Class DTM finished 0.591 seconds ahead of Abt Sport Audi driver Mattias Ekstrom after 89 laps on the ultra fast city circuit. Canadian Bruno Spengler finished 3rd in his Daimler Bank AMG C-Class further cementing his lead in the Championship. Salzgitter AMG C-Class driver Gary Paffett ended up 6th. After setting fastest time in qualifying Lauerus AMG C-Class driver Ralf Schumacher suffered a drive thru penalty after jumping the start and finished 11th.

The next round of the DTM is at the Nurburgring on August 8th.

Shown to the press just yesterday in Kristiansund Norway, AMG has unveiled the SLS AMG E-Cell which is the newest showcase for advanced alternative powertrain development. Using the existing light weight SLS AMG as a basis for this project, it features the latest in forward thinking plug-in electric technology.

Powered by an intelligent bank of lithium ion batteries, the SLS AMG E-Cell delivers a combined peak output 526hp and 649 lb/ft of torque. Victories in Europe's AUTO BILD Design Award 2010 and Plus X Award

Stuttgart – The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG super sports car is celebrating a brilliant victory in the huge design competition organised by Germany's AUTO BILD magazine. Around 200,000 readers of 21 European editions of the specialist publication voted the new gull-wing model into top place as Europe's most attractive car. In addition, the SLS AMG has also been honoured with the coveted Plus X Award for "high quality" and "design" in the world's largest technology, sport and lifestyle contest.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG picked up a number of top-class awards: after being awarded the AUTO BILD Design Award 2010 for Germany by AUTO BILD readers, the super sports car from Affalterbach then even went on to notch up a double victory in the European-wide vote. Around 200,000 readers of the international editions of the popular specialist publication not only voted it into first place in the coupés and cabriolets category, but at the same time also ranked the new gull-wing model as the overall winner of this car beauty contest. The Initial Quality Study serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership. The study is used extensively by manufacturers worldwide to help them design and build better vehicles and by consumers to help them in their vehicle purchase decisions. Initial quality has been shown over the years to be an excellent predictor of long-term vehicle durability, which directly impacts consumer purchase decisions. The study captures problems experienced by owners in two distinct categories—design-related problems and defects and malfunctions.

2010 IQS Ranking Highlights

Porsche leads the overall nameplate rankings, averaging 83 PP100. Following in the rankings are, respectively, Acura (which moves from 14th rank position in 2009 to second in 2010), Mercedes-Benz (which improves from sixth rank position in 2009 to third in 2010), Lexus and Ford (which moves into the top five for the first time since the inception of the study). MINI posts the largest improvement in 2010, reducing problems by 32 PP100 from 2009. Toyota's problem count increases by 16 PP100, moving it from sixth rank position in 2009 to 21st in 2010. "Clearly, Toyota has endured a difficult year," said Sargent. "Recent consumer concerns regarding Toyota's quality are reflected in the nameplate's performance in the 2010 study. That said, Toyota's success was built on a well-deserved reputation for quality, and there is little doubt that they will do everything possible to regain that reputation."
Ford and Lexus each garner three segment awards. Ford captures awards for the Focus, Mustang and Taurus, while Lexus receives awards for the GS, GX and LS models. The Lexus LS has the fewest quality problems in the industry, with just 55 PP100.
Chevrolet, Honda and Toyota receive two awards each. Chevrolet models earning awards are the Avalanche (in a tie) and the Tahoe. Honda receives awards for the Accord and the Accord Crosstour, while Toyota receives awards for the FJ Cruiser and Sienna.
Also receiving segment awards are: Acura RDX, Cadillac Escalade, GMC Sierra LD (in a tie), Hyundai Accent, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Nissan Frontier, Scion xB and Volvo C70.
The 2010 Initial Quality Study is based on responses from more than 82,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2010 model-year vehicles surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study is based on a 228-question battery designed to provide manufacturers with information to facilitate identification of problems and to drive product improvement. AMG Mercedes Teams Score First Win of Season in German Touring Car Series

It couldn't have gone any better for the AMG Mercedes Teams at the opening race of the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) at Hockenheim this weekend. AMG Mercedes Teams scored the first win in the championship opening race since 2006 in style.

HWA-AMG Salzgitter C-Class driver Gary Paffett qualified on the pole and romped to his third victory at the circuit followed by Daimler Bank HWA AMG driver Bruno Spengler in second, Junge Stern Persson Motorsport AMG driver Jamie Green third, and AMG Driving Academy HWA driver Paul Di-Resta fourth. The highest finishing Audi was fifth.

AMG Mercedes Deutsche Bank Mucke Motorsport driver David Coulthard opened his DTM history with a solid 12th place finish.

The rules for the series have been frozen with no new cars being constructed for the 2010 season ahead of a new rules package for 2011.

AMG-HWA and Audi Abt Sportline Teams run 2009 spec cars all other Teams run 2008 spec cars.

As a true performance driving school, the AMG Driving Academy offers participants custom-designed, hands-on lessons in dynamic, high-performance driving by world-class professional driving and racing instructors. Unlike competitive manufacturers’ programs, the AMG Driving Academy is the only program offered coast-to-coast at two of the nation’s premier race tracks: Road Atlanta in Georgia and Laguna Seca Raceway in California.

The AMG Driving Academy will offer three distinct programs this year, pushing participants to the limits of the performance envelope in select AMG vehicles, including the 2011 SLS AMG, the most-advanced AMG vehicle ever built.

Course descriptions are as follows:

Basic ($1,795): Intense, one-day track program focuses on performance driving dynamics. Advanced is offered to drivers who have completed either Basic, AMG Challenge, European Driving Academy program or equivalent courses.

Pro ($3,995): The pinnacle of the AMG Driving Academy curriculum, the Pro program offers increased instruction while challenging and improving capabilities and skills to a much greater degree. During the three-day program, participants will train on the legendary Road Atlanta circuit. As speeds increase and skills improve, open lapping provides the maximum challenge and thrill. With an intense curriculum, AMG experienced instructors prepare participants to confidently welcome the challenges of Road Atlanta.

David Coulthard Joins Mercedes-Benz Touring Car Championship Team

As the 2010 season of the DTM (German Touring Car Championship) gets closer there's some big news to report.

The AMG Mercedes C-Class driver squad for 2010 will be joined by yet another former winner from Formula One- Scotsman David Coulthard.

The very popular and charismatic former McLaren Mercedes and Williams F1 driver won 13 Grand Prix in 246 starts, 12 of those wins in Mercedes powered McLarens, so it is a return to the family of sorts. He finished second in the World Driving Championship during his McLaren years. Coulthard retired from F1 in 2007 while still competitive in the Red Bull F1 Team. After a couple of years in the commentary booth he tried an AMG C-Class DTM in testing and was immediately comfortable. In the interim he has been a Mercedes-Benz Brand Ambassador driving historic Mercedes racers at various events around the world.
He joins returning ex-F1 driver Ralf Schumacher in the AMG Mercedes DTM line-up, which also includes current F1 Test Drivers Paul Di Resta (Force India) and Gary Paffett (McLaren). Other AMG Mercedes DTM drivers for 2010 should include Bruno Spengler, Susie Stoddard and Jamie Green.
The DTM season kicks off on April 25th at Hockenheim and can be followed at http://www.dtm.com/ or www,autosport.com. The televised races are usually carried by SPEED Channel later in the year check local listings.

Joining the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG along a stretch of the original race route

The original winning car from the 3rd Carrera Panamericana Mexico in November 1952 is to return to the scene of its great triumph. The 300 SL racing sport car (W 194) will temporarily be removed from the “Races and Records” display at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, in order to join the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and set off once again along a part of the original route through Central America.

The 3rd Carrera Panamericana was one of the top international races of the 1952 season. The double victory achieved by Mercedes-Benz there ranks as one of the brand’s most spectacular successes. Karl Kling and co-driver Hans Klenk won the race, a long-distance event covering 3111 kilometres, against strong international competition at an average speed of 165.011 km/h. Second to cross the finishing line, also driving a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, were Hermann Lang and co-driver Erwin Grupp.

Kling’s collision with a vulture at 250 km/h, which left his car with a smashed windscreen and Hans Klenk with head injuries, went into the annals of racing history. In addition to replacing the screen, the mechanics also immediately fitted eight thin vertical metal bars to protect vehicle and driver in the event of a similar collision – still the vehicle’s most distinguishing feature.

SLS AMG is the new F1 Safety Car

When the new Petronas Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Team, the first factory Mercedes GP Team since 1955, makes its debut at the season opening Bahrain GP on the 14th of March a new AMG car will be sitting at the head of the grid in its position as Official Formula One Safety Car... the SLS AMG.

Driven by our friend and AMG Driving Academy Team member Bernd Maylander, the SLS AMG F1 Safety Car is only modified slightly from the street version that goes on sale in the US this spring.

With 571 hp (DIN) it is the most powerful F1 Safety Car yet in a tradition that goes back to 1994 when AMG supplied the first Safety Car for F1, a C36 AMG. Again created in the AMG Performance Studio the SLS AMG F1 Safety Car features AMG Carbon Ceramic brakes which are also available on the street car. Unfortunately the special LED lighting system is not.

Again for 2010 a C63 AMG Wagon serves as the F1 Medical Car that follows the field around the first lap and is available for quick response to an accident scene during the race as well.

Along with the SLS AMG F1 Safety Car, and C63 AMG Medical Car there will be 6 Mercedes powered race cars in the field:

Petronas Mercedes GP- drivers: Michael Schumacher, Nico Rosberg

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes- drivers: Lewis Hamilton, World Champion Jenson Button

Hendrick lends plane to Haiti relief effort

Following is an update on the efforts Hendrick Motorsports’ aviation department is making in assisting with Haitian earthquake relief. The devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in Haiti close to 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 12.

In 2005, to support relief after Hurricane Katrina, Carolinas Medical Center dispatched their first of its kind mobile hospital called MED1 to New Orleans. Mr. Hendrick knew several of the hospital personnel supporting this effort, and learned their medical teams had a 16 hour one way bus ride to get to their site near in Waveland, MS. Hendrick Motorsports began operating flights for MED1 which allowed the personnel to cut their transit time to two hours.

With that in mind, Mr. Hendrick directed us to find a way Hendrick Motorsports could help with this Haitian
disaster as well, and we began trying to connect with groups that needed to get into Haiti. We reached out to
CMC and several other aid organizations. Most were just ramping up their response efforts. We read about a group called Missionary Flights International (MFI) that had made one of the first relief flights into Haiti the
morning after the earthquake. MFI operates three DC3 cargo planes, with limited passenger seating, so they said this capability we provided to move a lot of people was critical and well-timed.

Our aviation director, Dave Dudley, connected with MFI on Thursday. We learned they have been providing
regular aviation missions to Haiti for decades, and are experienced and knowledgeable with that operating
environment, as well as the processes used to plan and coordinate needs with the agencies controlling relief for this disaster. At the same time, Hendrick Motorsports received authorization from the FAA to operate aircraft in that area.

Volunteers from our aviation department stepped forward, including two complete flight crews and an aircraft mechanic. On Friday, they took the first Saab to MFI's base in Fort Pierce, FL, and received briefing information that afternoon from the MFI operations team. Our first relief flight departed Fort Pierce at 5:00 am on Saturday, carrying in 35 medical and search/rescue personnel and evacuating 27 US citizens. The second Saab arrived Saturday afternoon, and, since Sunday, Hendrick Motorsports has been operating two round-trips per day, with the capability of transporting 180 total passengers.

The trips originate at MFI's hangar at St. Lucie County International Airport (Fort Pierce, FL). From there, a two hour flight is made to Providenciales, in the Turks and Caicos, to top off the fuel tanks because there is no fuel available in Haiti. After departing Providenciales, the flights arrive in Port?au?Prince, Haiti, forty minutes later.

The return flight to Fort Pierce, FL, may include a fuel stop in Exuma, Bahamas, depending on wind conditions. Total roundtrip time is approximately eight hours. Our crews are staying overnight in Fort Pierce and will return home at the end of this week when the surge passenger demand is expected to subside.

Fortunately, Missionary Flights’ staff is well connected to aid organizations with the right personnel who need to go in, and to those who need to get people out. This has allowed our team there to focus on the flying. Those going in are primarily medical and search/rescue teams who were either already involved in prior, established relief efforts in Haiti, or have been specially trained for response to natural disasters. The evacuees are people who were in Haiti on missions when the earthquake struck, including many women and children, as well as church groups who had been there doing good works.

Just yesterday, one of our planes carried in a medical team of thirty-three, including trauma surgeons, internists, anesthesiologists, nurses, and EMTs. Their equipment arrived in Haiti at the same time on one of MFI's cargo planes. By the time our first plane arrived back in Florida, the medical team was set up on a street in Port-au-Prince operating on injured people. They are going to be operating there around the clock.

Another passenger that flew in with us was a Haitian teacher who worked in an orphanage there. A few days
before the earthquake struck, she'd taken her first vacation in fourteen years to visit her mother in Wilmington, N.C. Of the fifty orphans she served there, only one was still alive after their building crumbled, and she was returning to help.

On one of the return flights yesterday was a youth group that had gone to Haiti before the earthquake on a
mission trip from their US church. They'd been stranded, and reported there was no means for them to get out since all commercial air service is cancelled. MFI arranged for them to be on one of our planes. A 17 year old high school student among them said since the earthquake hit she'd helped deliver two babies and assisted with amputations on other victims.

Our aviation team there reports being absolutely humbled to provide this support. The schedule is rigorous, but the stories of relief their work is providing have kept their spirits up.

Breaking News: Michael Schumacher Will Race for Mercedes-Benz in 2010

After weeks of speculation Mercedes-Benz confirmed on Wednesday that Michael Schumacher will make a comeback to race for the team next season alongside fellow German Nico Rosberg.
Schumacher, who retired at the end of 2006, has signed a deal that will see him return to the Formula One grid at the age of 41, bidding to add to his record tally of 91 wins and seven world titles.
It follows a planned comeback earlier this year for Ferrari - the team with which he won his last five drivers’ championships - to replace the injured Felipe Massa. Those plans had to be abandoned because of a neck injury from a motorbike accident.
Now fully fit, Schumacher will revive his relationship with Mercedes-Benz, a company with whom he had close ties earlier in his career. The German carmaker recently purchased the 2009 title-winning Brawn GP team, retaining team principal Ross Brawn, who previously helped lead Schumacher to title glory at Benetton and Ferrari.
"Mercedes GP Petronas represents a new challenge for me both in a sporting and a personal context,” said Schumacher. “It is a new chapter in my racing career and I am really looking forward to working with my old friend Ross Brawn and my companions from my days with the Mercedes Junior Programme.
“I am convinced that together we will be involved in the fight for the Formula One World Championship next year and I am already looking forward to getting back onto the race track. For me, this partnership closes the circle. Mercedes-Benz supported me for so many years when I began my Formula One career and now I can hopefully give something back to the brand with the star."
Ross Brawn commented: "I am delighted that we can confirm today that Michael will make his much-anticipated return to Formula One next year and drive for our Mercedes GP Petronas team. As seven-time world champion, Michael's outstanding record in Formula One speaks for itself and I am looking forward to working with him again.

2010 E63 AMG Wins Supersedan Comparision in Car and Driver Magazine

Our friends at Car and Driver magazine have confirmed what we already know, that the 2010 E63 AMG is THE supersedan. The December issue due at newsstands this week, already mailed to subscribers, picked the E63 over the Cadillac CTS-V and Jaguar XFR as the winner of their Supersedan comparison "Rabids at Rest".

With a 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds, 0-100 of 9.5 and 1/4 mile in 12.5 at 115 mph, the E63 was easily the fastest of the group, including the Cadillac with 556hp. (Only a tick behind a Porsche 911 C2S.)

A sports car like 0.92 g around the 200 ft skidpad also placed the E63 as the best handler in the group.
